ARTIST STATEMENT:
My work reflects my passion for the beauty of the natural world and how I experience it. There is a wildness in everything around us – it exists even though we try to tame it. Through my expression of the “wild” horse, I release my creative spirit into the universe. My love of nature and the wild stems from my childhood growing up in western Kansas – where the prairie meets the sky. It is in that sense of freedom that my creativity finds its expression. My deep paintings of flowers tempt me with their innate beauty and inner mystery. Matisse once said that in order to paint a rose, an artist must forget all the roses that have ever been painted. I believe this is true.
I have been an artist all my life. I believe that we all are. It is a way of seeing the world through eyes that notice beauty, color, contrast and composition.
